Volatile and semi-volatile terpenes impact leaf flammability: differences according to the level of terpene identification
نویسندگان
چکیده
In flammability assessment, the terpene effect is usually studied using their total or subgroup content, missing, therefore, information that could be provided by molecules themselves. this study, specific role of terpenes on leaf was sought comparing different levels identification—total, (i.e. mono-, sesqui-, and diterpene), single compound—as well as interactions with fuel moisture content (FMC) in four species common Mediterranean Wildland–Urban Interfaces (Pinus halepensis, Cupressocyparis leylandii, Hesperocyparis arizonica, Cupressus sempervirens). Pinus halepensis most flammable (low FMC higher sesquiterpene but low diversity) while leylandii presented highest diversity (higher mono- diterpene content). Flammability differently affected according to identification level used models. The effects ranged from non-significant for studied, mostly significant, compound content. Regarding former, lack significant results due opposite compounds within a subgroup. For latter, driving (positive negative) differed among species. A cumulative also highlighted some cases remained main drivers regardless Using refined modelling allowed better understanding compounds’ flammability, which useful plant traits linked flammability.

Differences in volatile terpene composition between the bark and leaves of tropical tree species.
Volatile terpenes are among the most diverse class of defensive compounds in plants, and they are implicated in both direct and indirect defense against herbivores. In terpenes, both the quantity and the diversity of compounds appear to increase the efficiency of defense as a diverse blend of compounds provides a more efficient protection against a broader range of herbivores and limits the cha...
متن کاملEarly leaf removal impact on volatile composition of Tempranillo wines.
BACKGROUND Early defoliation is a very innovative technique in viticulture used for yield management. The effects of early leaf removal performed manually and mechanically at two different phenological stages, pre-bloom and fruit set, on the volatile composition of Tempranillo (Vitis vinifera L.) wines were studied. Volatiles were identified and quantified by gas chromatography. RESULTS Early...
متن کاملVariation of herbivore-induced volatile terpenes among Arabidopsis ecotypes depends on allelic differences and subcellular targeting of two terpene synthases, TPS02 and TPS03.
When attacked by insects, plants release mixtures of volatile compounds that are beneficial for direct or indirect defense. Natural variation of volatile emissions frequently occurs between and within plant species, but knowledge of the underlying molecular mechanisms is limited. We investigated intraspecific differences of volatile emissions induced from rosette leaves of 27 accessions of Arab...

The essential oil constituents of the peel and leaf of Citrus aurantiumL. (Rutaceae) grown in thenorth of Iran, were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Fourteen components representing 99.6% ofthe leafoil were identified. The major compounds were linalool (39.4%), linalyl acetate (38.8%)and a-terpineol (7.2%). Twenty constituents consisting 99.4% of the peeloil were identified. The main components were l...
